Women shutdown flow station in Delta, demand hospital, employment

– The station operated by NPDC/ Neconde OML42 JV has been shut down by angry community members in Delta

– Protesting members of the community are reportedly demanding hospital, employment of their children, payment of entitlements owed the various communities

– The protesting communities are all in Warri south west local government area of Delta state and they include Okenrokoko, Omadino, Ekpemu and Akpatagbegbe

Women from the host communities to Jones Creek, Odidi and Batan flow stations have shut down the station operated by NPDC/ Neconde OML42 JV.

The women who occupied the station in the early hours of Thursday, August 15, are demanding for hospital, employment of their children, payment of entitlements owed the various communities from the owners of the station.

Vanguard reports that the communities are all in Warri south west local government area of Delta state and they include Okenrokoko, Omadino, Ekpemu and Akpatagbegbe. The other communities are Odidi, Kantu, Batan, Gbokodo Itsekiri and Ajuju communities.

They said they will occupy the three flow stations till they would be told by their leaders to vacate.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Delta governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, called for the resuscitation of Warri Port.

The governor said that revival of the port is a key factor to the economic development of the state and the nation.

His words: “There is no doubt that the Warri port is a key economical factor for our state and the nation; the earlier we get it working the better for us.

“It is in the best interest of this nation to expand, create and develop port facilities because, Lagos ports are already congested and more ports mean more boost to our economy.”
