PANDEF To INEC: Maintain Your Neutrality, Conclude Rivers Guber Poll

Ughelli – Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral, impartial and deploy every lawful machinery within its fold to conclude the collation process of the Rivers State Governorship and House of Assembly Election.

Dr Alfred Mulade, National Secretary PANDEF, in a statement, called on INEC to adhere to its guidelines and quickly bring to a conclusion the process of collation of the Rivers State Governorship Election results and the winner, so as to douse the political tension in the State.

PANDEF also commended the electoral body on its decision on Rivers State governorship and House of Assembly Election while urging INEC to always be guided by subsisting electoral laws and guidelines.

Its also states that PANDEF members, together with other members of the allied regional organizations like the Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Middle Belt Forum will continue to express concern and condemn the dastardly act of militarization, intimidation, killings during the period of election.

The statement further expressed concern over comments made by Anabs Sara-Igbe using its platform to canvass for one of the Rivers State governorship candidates on the basis of ethnicity.

The group faulted the intent of Sara-Igbe which its adduced brings in ethnic colouration and wrongly using PANDEF as a vehicle to achieve his aim.

“It is unreasonable and ridiculous for anyone to consider the situation in Rivers State on the basis of ethnicity. Sara-Igbe, just like any other individual, is at liberty to canvass personal views, but however, erroneous of him to have claimed to be speaking for PANDEF  in one the national TV stations.

The Statement further said: “We are committed to unity and oneness the Niger Delta  Region, and shall always stand with the people of the various States on all matters that concern their general well being and development.”
