Osinbajo, Gov Okowa say MSMEs will fast-track economic growth

– The growth of small businesses is significant in the overall economic success of any nation

– This was acknowledged by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa

– The duo made their positions known in Asaba, the Delta state capital at the 25th edition of MSMEs clinic

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday, November 7 said Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) were the fastest ways of growing the economies of states and the nation.

They made their positions known in Asaba at the 25th edition of MSMEs clinic organised by the Delta state government in collaboration with the office of the vice president.

At the event, Osinbajo commended Governor Okowa’s administration for its commitment to growing MSMEs, noting that effort of the state government were in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to make businesses work in Nigeria.

“We really believe that the MSMEs are the engine of growth in our country and we are therefore, fully committed to ensure that as a government, we will remove all the obstacles that is standing in the way of the MSMEs so that they can have the opportunity to thrive and grow,” he said.

The vice president added that efforts were on to ensure a single-digit interest rates for MSMEs to help them address issues of finances.

On his part, Governor Okowa said MSMEs have been globally recognised as engines of rapid economic growth, wealth creation, employment generation and social inclusion.

“They are also known as incubators of innovation while providing opportunities for increased participation of women in the economy,” he said

He commended the vice president for supporting things that had to do with Delta state.

The governor said that across the state, there were testimonies of successful small businesses and life-changing testimonies by those who were trained, established and mentored under schemes of the Delta state government.

Governor Okowa is generally known as one of the state governors with the biggest investment on small businesses.

Since the advent of his administration in 2015, the government of Delta has built over a dozen vocational centres across the state.

VP Osinbajo have at various fora commended the Okowa administration for its giant strides in improving Delta state economy through massive investments in MSMEs.

Last month, Legit.ng reported that Osinbajo and Okowa called on governments at all levels in Nigeria to join hands to fight the menace of poverty.

The duo made the call at the 18th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning meeting in Asaba, the Delta state capital on Friday, October 11.
