Olympic Eagles Enter NFF’s Busy Schedule In Asaba – Latest Sports and Football News in Nigeria

The under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles ahcvew been added to a busy weekend for Nigerian football at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, as they will take on Libya at same venue on March 25.

The Olympic Eagles will battle Libya this Wednesday in the first leg of their Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier, which sports247.ng reports is billed for Tunisia because the hosts cannot play in their own country.
Both teams will then storm the Delta State capital for the reverse fixture, which will be literally sandwiched between two top-grade matches for the Super Eagles – against Seychelles and Egypt.

The senior national team will tango Seychelles in their last match of the Afirca Cup of Nations qualifiers on March 22, before returning four days later to host Egypt in an international friendly on March 26.

It means the Olympic Eagles will have the pleasure of playing Libya just 24 hours before Egypt take over from their fellow-North Africans in a prestige friendly tie at the stadium named in honour of former Eagles captain and head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.

That also means Imama Amapakabo’s star-studded Olympic team will be cynosure of all eyes during their stay in Asaba, where they will have the opportunity to hobnob with fellow-players of the Eagles and the coach, Gernot Rohr.

Indeed, Rohr will be present at the stadium when the team hosts Libya in the return leg on March 25, with an unspoken hint that he could be out to scout for young talents who could step up to the senior squad in the AFCON 2019 preparations’ programme.

Having been drawn bye for the first round, Amapakabo’s team will play Libya in a double header qualifier next week, with the winner over both ties progressing to the final qualification round, which will hold in July
