Delta State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Train, Wednesday, made a stop at Bomadi and Patani local government areas, where members of the team were received by party supporters, who defied the hot sun to give the party leadership, including its governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, a rousing welcome.
Speaking to the crowd at both local government areas, Okowa said the incoming administration would lay serious emphasis on the empowerment of youths and women.
According to him, “Our women and youths deserve to be fully engaged in productive ventures to make their lives more meaningful.”
He said he would vigorously pursue all round development across the state, emphasising that the state would witness significant boost in the agriculture education, health, industrial sectors as well as massive development of infrastructure.
Okowa, who was obviously overwhelmed by the massive turnout and support, said it was clear that the people of Bomadi and Patani have taken the right decision to vote for PDP in the forthcoming general elections.
Recounting the achievements of the PDP-led administration in the state, the governorship candidate expressed satisfaction with the level of transformation that has so far taken place in Bomadi and Patani, which he said was made possible by past and present government, and promised to consolidate on it to bring more development to the area, when he eventually becomes the governor from May 29, 2015.
While stressing the need for unity and oneness amongst the PDP faithful, Okowa, pleaded with all to work for the success of the party in next month’s elections, adding that the responsibility to ensuring that all PDP’ candidates were delivered rests on all party members.
He admonished those who were aggrieved due to one reason or the other to put aside animosity, as the PDP was large enough to accommodate everybody, noting that, “disagreements were bound to come up in any human family, especially in a family as large as the PDP. But the good thing is that after such disagreement we always find a way to resolve our differences. And I think it is time for us as one united family to move on to success. “
He recalled that in 2007 when he contested for the governorship and it did not work out he did not leave the party, but rather, he joined others to ensure that the party emerged victorious at the end. “Today, I am the gubernatorial candidate of our great party. Even my running mate, Kingsley Otuaro, was to contest for the House of Assembly but he was prevailed upon. Look at where he is now. So do not agitate too much. All you need to do is look upon God and when He says it is your turn that is the only time you will get it and enjoy it,” he explained.
He appealed to the people of the two local government areas to continue to support the PDP and vote for all its candidates, even as he encouraged them to get their permanent voters cards, as according to him, “that is the only instrument available to you to bring about victory for the PDP.”
Some PDP leaders who spoke at the rally, including Senator James Manager, who is seeking re-election to the Senate, former Delta State PDP Chairman, Captain Pius Senebe (rtd ), Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana and former Police Affairs Minister, Alowei Brodick Bozimo, all applauded Senator Okowa, describing him as a worthy son of Delta State, who has continued to be a strong unifying factor in the politics of the state.
They described Bomadi and Patani as the home of PDP, saying it will be difficult for anybody to convince people of the area to support another party because of the monumental transformation the area has witnessed since 1999.
Captain Senebe disclosed that the people of Patani have resolved to give their votes to PDP. “Patani is for PDP, and we will do everything within our powers to ensure that the party wins 100 percent in this local government,” he emphasised.
