ASABA – National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended the posting of 2019 “Batch A” Corp members in the state to Warri South West and Udu Local Government Council Areas of Delta State.
The decision might not be unconnected with the ongoing internal crisis in the LGAs and the safety of corp members.
Omotade Benjamin, the State Coordinator of the NYSC in Delta State, who spoke on Tuesday during the closing of the 2019 Batch “A” Orientation Course, disclosed that Delta State Board of NYSC agreed on the decision.
He assured that the non-deployment of corp members to the area would not affect the entire LGA.
According to him, “The administration of corps members to the local government has to be necessarily done at the local government office. We do not want any issue to compromise their personal security. For now, we are suspending on temporary basis posting of corps members to the two LGA” he stated.
Kingsley Otuaro, the state’s acting governor, who was represented by Jude Sinebe, the state Commissioner of Higher Education, appealed to corps members to avoid frivolous journeys during the one year programme.
He also charged security agencies to take security of corps members as utmost priority, urging them to resist the temptation of relocation, even as he advised them to transfer ideals and skills which they had gained from their time in the orientation camp.
“Make use of your expertise and talents to impact on students in your host communities as 85 per cent of you would be posted to schools. Therefore, endeavour to make them better than you met them,” he pleaded.
