NPFL 2019/20: Battle grounds ready for match day 2

The Nigerian Professional Football League finally kicked off last weekend and as anticipated, it was intriguing one with lots of interesting results. From a week that saw an away win and lots of goals, match day two promises to be another week of intrigue and action.

Already, the match involving Akwa United and Abia Warriors have been postponed to Thursday due to the usage of Godswill Akpabio Staium, Uyo by the Super Eagles for the AFCON 2021 qualifiers against Benin Republic while the one between Akwa Starlets and Kano pillars was postponed indefinitely. Even at that, there are still 8 battle grounds to expect actions from this weekend in the NPFL.

The soccer temple Agege, Lagos is somewhere to be as the Olukoya boys, host FC Ifeanyi Ubah in what will be a mouth watery affair. The Lagos state based club side returning home with a sweet victory on the road against Heartland FC coached by their former manager, Fidelis Ilechukwu in Owerri will be hoping to down another south eastern club this weekend. The Anambra warriors also got 1-0 win over Adamawa united last time out and this is why this game is a must watch as both team will want to continue their 100% start to the season

From Lagos to Akure, where Sunshine Stars of Akure will welcome new NPFL boys Warri Wolves at the Akure township stadium. The Akure gunners were not in action on MD1 as their opponent was involved in CAF Confederation game but for Warri Wolves, a draw at home against, title contenders Akwa United was a good start and they will be hoping to get something from Ondo state as well.

In Port Harcourt, heartland FC would be guest of Rivers United. The host got a point from Kano and will want to consolidate the effort with a win in front of their fans. While Heartland need anything but a defeat on Sunday, it is looking like an uphill but achievable task away from home.

The solid miners, Nassarawa United will host Wikki Tourist of Bauchi in Lafia. The visitors coming with three points in the bag with the host yet to a kick a ball.
While after that 3-1 defeat in Jos, Lobi Stars will be hoping in-form striker, Sikiru Alimi gets in the goals against Delta Force in Makurdi.

After sealing their CAF Confederation cup group tickets, defending champions, Enyimba of Aba kick off their season with a visit to Daura to tackle Katsina United while Enugu Rangers are on the road to Adamawa United as well.

Completing the round of matches for this week will be the Abdu Maikaba led plateau united up against Jigawa Golden Stars. Last week’s convincing victory over Lobi Stars will boost the confidence of the team from Jos against one of the new teams in the league.
