Man commits suicide four months after wife’s death

A man in his late 30s simply identified as Papa Israel has reportedly hanged himself on Oquiky Street, by Sido junction in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta state.

The man allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday November 6, 2019 after the death of his wife who died four months ago in Warri.

Reasons for his decision have yet to be ascertained as none of his family members could be reached for comment.

Our correspondent gathered that the father of two children – Israel and Jeremiah aged between four and six years – killed himself after the death of his wife four months ago.

Residents said the deceased’s late wife was the breadwinner of the family.

One of the residents, who gave his name only as Eze, said, ‘’We were surprised to find Papa Israel’s body dangling from a rope inside his room. He is survived by two children. He lost his wife about four months ago after she was sick for a long time.”

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Sunday PUNCH that the deceased’s family had yet to show up.

‘’The landlord of the house, Mr Morison, lives in another area. He rushed down immediately he was called. We don’t even know his (the deceased’s) family members,” he added.

When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Adeleke Adeyinka, said, he had yet to be briefed about the incident.
