DESTMA Urges Ughelli North Legislators To Enact Laws To Check Street Trading

UGHELLI – Mr. Desmond Adu, Head of Ughelli North Local Government Area chapter of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), has called on the legislative arm of council to enact laws to prohibit hawking and trading along Ughelli Main Market Road to decongest the streets to ensure safety of lives.

Adu said the law, if enacted, would help to compliment efforts and good work of Hon, Adode Godwin, chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, who recently opened up illegal waste dump sites within the market premises.

Adu, who stated this during a chat with journalists, explained that the law would help check interferences from politicians and influential members of the society, who would not allow the present taskforce to carry out their lawful duties as expected.

He called on members of the public to give maximum co-operation to the task force setup by the council chairman to enable it discharge its lawful duties, adding, “I commend the council chairman for the initiatives of using DESTMA who now run shifts.”

Adu commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the establishment of DESTMA, which, he said, had given him and his team the opportunity to serve the state, promising not to disappoint the people and the governor in the course of discharging their duties.
