Ughelli – Crisis Looms In Sarabubowei Community of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State over failure of Ocean Marine Company under Pipeline Petroleum Marketing Company (PPMC) to include Sarabubowei in the ongoing clean-up of oil spill exercise in the area.
In a statement signed by Comrade Frederick Igere and Mr. Iroupa Ebimiesinde, Chairman and Secretary of Sarabubowei Community respectively, said the sidelining of Sarabubowei community in favour of an Itsekiri community will cause crises between Ijaws and Itsekiris.
It would be recalled that recently oil spill from ruptured pipeline belonging to Pipeline Petroleum Marketing Company (PPMC) ravaged Sarabubowei community and as a result the community officially informed PPMC.
But Sarabubowei community were surprised that repair work done by Ocean Marine hired by PPMC where carried out without formal discussion with the community executives which they said may cause another crises between ijaws and itsekiris in escravos.
They explained in the statement that Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) and clean-up exercise has not been done and relief materials have not been given to them despite the fact that their farmlands, creeks and river were all ravaged by the oil spill.
The community called on the Federal Government to prevail on PPMC and Ocean Marine to clean-up the oil spill in an orderly and responsible manner in order not to cause crises between Ijaws and Itsekiris in escravos
