Bandits Kill Five Policemen in Kaduna, Delta

By John Shiklam in Kaduna

A total of five policemen were killed on Saturday in two separate attacks by bandits in Kaduna and Delta States.
While four policemen were killed in Jankasa village, Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, a police corporal was killed at a police stop-and-search location at Kpakiama Junction, Bomadi LGA in Delta State.
The four policemen killed in Kaduna State were said to be on their way to an operation in the area, when the unknown gunmen ambushed them.
The bandits were said to have engaged the policemen in a fierce gun battle, before overpowering and killing the four policemen.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mr. Yakubu Sabo confirmed the incident in a text message.

He said the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday when the Inspection General of Police (IG) Intelligence Rapid Response Team (IRT), was in the area for an operation.
He said: “At about 0630hrs of Saturday, a team of detectives attached to IG IRT while on operation along Jankasa village of Rigasa Kaduna, were ambushed by armed bandits.
“After a fierce gun battle, four of our policemen paid the supreme sacrifice”
According to him, reinforcement was mobilised to the area, with the view to bringing the perpetrators to book, but no arrest has been made yet.

He added that the police were doing everything possible to fish out the hoodlums and bring them to justice. Security sources told THISDAY last night that a police team in Delta State was on its routine duty when unknown armed men stormed their spot, opened fire on them, leaving the Corporal dead and others wounded.

Delta State PPRO, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka (DSP), said though he was yet to get an official situation
report on the development, the attack took place.
He however, confirmed that five personnel were on duty when the attack occurred but could not confirm if firearms were taken from the scene by the hoodlums.
He said investigation was already ongoing.
“Although I am yet to get a situation report, I can confirm to you that it is a fact. I wouldn’t know yet if firearms were stolen from them because I can’t confirm how many weapons they went out with, but there were five
of them on duty at the place. Investigation has started”, Aniamaka said.
