Amia seizes Lobi Stars chance with both hands

Kenneth Kumbur Amia who spent at least three years trying to break into the main team of Lobi Stars of Makurdi is now living his dream as he has seized with both hands the opportunity given to him by the new gaffer, Gbenga Ogunbote to play for the ‘pride of Benue’.

The Shell Cup product joined the Feeder team of Lobi Stars in 2015 from where he was promoted to the senior team by the vice-chairman Mike Idoko but successive coaches didn’t put much trust in his abilities.

Consequently, he had no opportunity to exhibit the talent that made the legendary Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha to anoint him as his successor after he dazzled in the 2010 Shell Cup finals.

However, Amia’s perseverance began to pay off when he debuted for Lobi Stars in the 2017/2018 season against Niger Tornadoes in a home match. He played for only five minutes.

Amia didn’t get another opportunity to play again under the late Solomon Ogbeide but the management of the club kept faith in him.

Throughout last season, he didn’t play any league match for the club but all that is about to change as the new coach Ogunbote has shown tremendous confidence in the youngster.

The coach has so far demonstrated faith in the product of Milo Stars of Adikpo by giving him ample opportunities in the club’s ongoing pre-season matches.

After turning heads at the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tournament in Enugu where he won two Man of the Match awards, the skillful midfielder was the cynosure of all eyes at the just concluded Gov Okowa Tournament in Asaba.

An elated Amia told Trust Sports that he owns his progress in Lobi Stars to God and the vice-chairman of the club, Mike Idoko.

“I am succeeding because of God almighty and my club Chairman Mr. Mike Idoko. He has been there for me. He accepted me in the Feeder team and ensured I got promoted to the senior team.

“God is also using the coaches in Lobi Stars to nurture my talent. Coach Ogunbote is like a father. He has a special place in my heart.

“I am not going to rest on my oars. It takes the grace of God for one to go this far and I believe the best is yet to come,” he submitted.

If he keeps his pledge, Nigerian football fans might just have another mesmerizing midfielder in the cast of the famous ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha entertaining them in the near future.
